Series 1: Introduction

Welcome to Love is the Message. In this introductory series, Tim and Jeremy introduce us to the totemic figure of David Mancuso, who’s parties at the Loft in downtown Manhattan begin our story in 1970. We hear about the Counterculture, ask what its various strands and tendencies were, and how it set itself against the world of the early '70s more generally. We begin to dig into what makes the dancefloor such a special and transformative place; follow love as an affective line of enquiry; and expand on why the 1970s was such an important and pivotal decade in the development of political and creative culture in the United States and across the world.

In every episode we’ll hear examples of fantastic music - both deep cuts and number ones - that accompany the story.
